Castle Wall at Sunset, Castelo de Sesimbra, Portugal

I took this photograph at the historic Castelo de Sesimbra in Portugal, looking along the old stone castle wall as it winds down the hillside toward the coast. The late afternoon and sunset light caught the warm tones of the stone and autumn-colored foliage, while the vivid green hillside created a beautiful contrast.

I enhanced the original photograph to give it a softer, more painterly quality while keeping the character of the scene intact. I especially liked the way the wall leads the eye through the landscape, almost inviting you to follow it around the hillside and see where it goes.
